Connecting Late Antiquities

Connecting Late Antiquities (CLA) is a collaborative project to create open, digital prosopographical resources for the Roman and post-Roman territories between the third and seventh centuries AD. CLA is digitising, uniting and linking existing resources to make them more accessible and enhance their reach and scholarly utility.

In its current state, the site gives access to a digital, marked up version of the Prosopography of the Later Roman Empire, vol. 1 (PLRE, ed. A.H.M Jones, J. R. Martindale, J. Morris, Cambridge University Press, 1971). In future, we will add the remaining volumes of PLRE as well as addenda to and corrigenda of PLRE entries that reflect the current state of research.

We will also add new prosopographical data on individuals outside the remit of PLRE and integrate the prosopographical material on this site with online geographical, textual, epigraphic and papyrological resources. The enterprise will dramatically improve access to information about late antique people for scholars of this period.
